Turo guest cancel — guest canceled your trip, host earnings, refundable vs non-refundable

You searched “Turo guest cancel,” “guest canceled my Turo trip,” “Turo host earnings if guest cancels,” or “Turo refundable vs non-refundable.” They canceled in the app. That is not a no-show, and it is not you canceling. Host earnings follow the free-period clock, then a half-day or one-day slice — unless the trip was non-refundable past the 24-hour grace.

Turo can change these numbers — check your listing.

First trip/ Guest cancel/ Guest no-show/ Host cancel

The short answer

They canceled. The trip is dead immediately. What you earn depends on refundable vs not, and the clock.

Turo’s page about trips canceled by guests or Turo and Turo’s Cancellation policy (last revised April 14, 2026):

Do not hand keys on a canceled trip. Do not ask the guest to tap Cancel so you skip a host fee — a mutual cancel is $0, including on a non-refundable discount.

If this page and Turo’s site disagree, believe Turo. This is not legal advice and not a promise Turo will pay every canceled booking.

Three different clocks. Do not merge them. This page is they canceled in the product. Turo guest no-show is they never arrived and you report. Turo host cancel is you ending a booked trip. Cancel earnings are not the Stripe bank clock — that clock is on Turo payout.

The free period

Refundable free period: 24 hours before start, or one hour after a last-minute booking.

Turo’s host cancel page and Turo’s guest refunds page use the same free-period clock. Guest $0 fee. Host $0. The period is:

  • At least 24 hours before the scheduled start; or
  • Within 1 hour of booking if the trip was booked less than 25 hours before start.

Those clocks use the vehicle’s time zone. If they change the trip later, the free period stays tied to the original booking time. It does not reset.

Turo’s Cancellation policy (last revised April 14, 2026) says the last-minute window as guests who book within 24 hours of start, then have one hour to cancel free. Host Help and guest refunds Help both print less than 25 hours. If those pages disagree on a live trip, believe Help. Confirm the live articles — Turo can change these numbers.

Refundable, outside the free period

Host share of half a day, or one day — not the whole trip price.

From Turo’s host page about trips canceled by guests or Turo, and the Cancellation policy:

Turo’s guest refunds page: protection plan, Extras, and young-driver fee are refunded to the guest in full. This page will not invent a young-driver dollar amount.

Turo can change these numbers — check your listing. “Average trip price” is Turo’s number, not your listing rate.

Host earnings What the guest gets
Refundable, in the free period $0 Full refund (guest $0 fee)
Refundable, outside the free period — two days or shorter Host share of half of one day’s average trip price, plus half of any delivery fee Trip price and trip fee minus half of one day’s average; protection plan, Extras, and young-driver fee refunded in full
Refundable, outside the free period — longer than two days Host share of one full day’s average trip price, plus half of any delivery fee Trip price and trip fee minus one day’s average; same full refund of protection plan, Extras, and young-driver fee
Non-refundable, inside 24-hour grace after booking $0 Full refund
Non-refundable, after the 24-hour grace Help: full earnings. Policy: earnings less Turo fees. Host share — not 100% of trip price. No trip refund (security deposit can still come back)

Host Help, guest refunds Help, and Turo’s Cancellation policy (last revised April 14, 2026). Amounts can change. This is not legal advice.

Non-refundable

24-hour grace, then two official wordings for the same host-share idea.

Non-refundable is a trip type, not a vibe. Turo’s host Help: canceled within 24 hours of booking → not eligible for earnings. Guest refunds Help: full guest refund in that grace. After the grace, the two live pages do not use the same sentence:

Same idea. You get the host share. You do not get 100% of the trip price the guest paid. This page will not pick one wording and hide the other. Confirm the live pages on the trip in front of you.

Product context only — not Help — from Turo’s 2026 marketplace updates (updated Jun 15, 2026): as of January 19, a 10% non-refundable option is on all vehicles for trips booked 4+ days out. That is the current published product note. Do not treat an older 7-day / 10-or-15% blog rule as current. Host Help on that 10% cut, duration discounts, and stacking is on Turo weekly and monthly discounts.

Mutual cancel is $0 under any circumstances, including a non-refundable discount. Already on Turo host cancel. Do not ask the guest to tap Cancel so you skip a host fee — that is how you turn their cancel into your $0.

Turo canceled it

Email, trip marked Canceled. Do not hand keys.

Turo’s host Help: if Turo or a guest cancels, Turo emails you and marks the trip Canceled in Trips. Trust-and-safety cancels exist. Read the notice. Do not give keys or grant access. Do not leave a lockbox live for a canceled trip. If a spare fob is sitting in the box, bag it so a boxed key cannot wake the car.

Turo’s Cancellation policy on host earnings when Turo cancels:

  • Turo cancel more than 24 hours before start, or within the 1-hour last-minute booking window (trips booked less than 25 hours before start) → host not eligible.
  • Turo cancel less than 24 hours before start → the same half-day / one-day formula as a guest cancel outside the free period (plus half of any delivery fee).

The policy’s Turo-cancel lines say “one day’s average trip price (based on host’s chosen earnings plan)” and “half of one day’s average,” without the “their share of” phrase it uses on guest cancels. Guest-cancel Help always says your share. Same half-day / one-day shape. Confirm the live policy if Turo — not the guest — canceled the trip.

Exceptions

Flights, cleanliness, and extenuating circumstances are not automatic pay.

Turo’s host Help: Turo may make exceptions to host earnings for trips canceled outside the free period in cases of flight delays or cancellations, issues tied to vehicle cleanliness, extenuating circumstances, or other circumstances. They are not automatic. You contact support.

Turo’s extenuating-circumstances page for hosts: cancellation fees are not automatically excused during an emergency. You must contact customer support. Turo reviews each issue. Documentation can be required.

Turo’s Cancellation policy on a guest flight or train delay: the guest must message you and request a new start time. Turo expects a documented good-faith try to accommodate. If you cannot or do not accommodate a new start time and the trip is canceled, the host receives no host earnings. If you made a good-faith attempt, both sides cannot agree, and the trip must be canceled, Turo says they pay you as though it were a guest no-show — a different formula, on Turo guest no-show. Airport stalls and 4-hour windows are on Turo airport delivery. A delayed flight is not automatic cancel pay.

An example, not a Turo payout

Use $60 to see the formula. Do not quote it as what Turo pays.

The homepage calculator starts with example numbers so you can change them: $60/day, 50% occupancy, $500 fixed, $25/trip, a $60 maintenance reserve, 80% Balanced. A guest cancel is not occupancy. It does not turn 50% into a better month. Do not bake a made-up cancel dollar into that $60.

Turo’s “one day’s average trip price” is Turo’s number, not your listing rate. If you want the shape of the short-trip refundable formula on this site’s example rate: half of $60 is $30, then an 80% Balanced share is $24. Longer than two days, same caveat: one day × $60 × 80% = $48. Those dollars are math on the example rate, not a Turo payout promise. Change the $60. Confirm live Help.

Half of any delivery fee is a separate line. How you set that fee is on Turo airport delivery. Subtraction after a payout lands is on Money.

What this page will not do

No merged clocks. No invented fee. No “just have them cancel.”

Turo can change these numbers — check your listing. This is not legal advice.

Five questions

FAQ

What happens if a guest cancels a Turo trip?

The cancel is effective immediately. Turo emails you and marks the trip Canceled. Free-period clocks use the vehicle’s time zone and do not reset if they later change the trip. Refundable in the free period: host $0. Outside it: host share of half a day or one day, plus half of any delivery fee. Non-refundable has a 24-hour grace. Not a no-show. Confirm Turo’s page about trips canceled by guests or Turo.

How much does a Turo host get if the guest cancels?

Refundable free period: $0. Refundable outside it: your share of half of one day’s average on trips two days or shorter, or your share of one full day on longer trips, plus half of any delivery fee. Non-refundable after the 24-hour grace: Help says full earnings; the policy says earnings less Turo fees. Mutual cancel: $0. Do not treat a $60 calculator example as a Turo payout. Amounts can change.

What is Turo’s free cancellation period for guests?

Host Help and guest refunds Help: at least 24 hours before start, or within one hour of booking if booked less than 25 hours before start. Vehicle time zone. A trip change does not reset it. Turo’s Cancellation policy says the last-minute window as book-within-24-hours. If the pages disagree, believe live Help.

What if the guest booked a non-refundable Turo trip?

24-hour grace after booking: full guest refund, no host earnings. After grace: Help says full earnings; policy says earnings less Turo fees — host share, not 100% of trip price. As of Jan 19, 2026, a 10% non-refundable option is on all vehicles for trips booked 4+ days out. Mutual cancel is still $0.

What if Turo cancels the trip instead of the guest?

Email, trip marked Canceled. Do not hand keys. Policy: Turo cancel more than 24 hours before start (or in the 1-hour last-minute window) → host not eligible. Turo cancel less than 24 hours before start → same half-day / one-day formula. Exceptions are not automatic. Confirm the live policy.

The rest of the pack

The $19 kit is the “stay in the app / don’t ask them to cancel for you” messages, not a cancel service.

24 guest notes, including a please-stay-in-the-app line. The cancel still happens in Turo.
