Can an 18-Year-Old Rent on Turo? Guest Age Rules (18 / 21 / 25)

Yes — an 18-year-old can rent many US Standard cars, and they pay Turo’s young driver fee (not a host surcharge). Floors by class: 18+ Standard, 21+ over about $20k, 25+ Deluxe, 30+ Super Deluxe / Classic / Specialty. Host age to list (21+) is a different page. Confirm live Help.

Should I list/ Host age/ Guest age/ Unauthorized driver

The short answer

Class sets the floor. Booking day sets the age. Turo bills the young-driver fee.

Turo’s page about booking a car in the US (last updated 04/13/2026): your required minimum age depends on the vehicle class and considers your age at the time you book, not at the time the trip takes place.

If the driver is between 18 and 24, they must pay a young driver fee. Turo calculates it on age at booking. It varies by trip length and other factors. It cannot be excused or refunded once the trip is completed. Live Help does not print a dollar amount. This page will not invent one.

If this page and Turo’s site disagree, believe Turo. This is not legal advice.

Three different doors. Do not merge them. This page is who can book — guest age by class, plus Turo’s young driver fee. Host age is who can list: US hosts 21+. Unauthorized driver is who may drive and who may pick up: only the primary picks up and returns.
If guest age made you want to list, the $19 Starter Kit is guest-message templates for license and age edge cases, a take-home spreadsheet, and a 14-day checklist. It does not override Turo’s age rules. One-time. The calculator stays free.

The table

Standard 18+. Over $20k 21+. Deluxe 25+. Super Deluxe / Classic / Specialty 30+.

Copied from Turo’s US booking Help. Turo can change these numbers — check your listing.

Vehicle class Minimum age (at booking)
Standard vehicle 18 or older
Vehicle with a total market value of more than $20k 21 or older
Deluxe Class 25 or older
Super Deluxe Class, Classic, or Specialty 30 or older

Deluxe and Super Deluxe are Turo classes, not a label you type into the listing. Turo’s Deluxe Class and Super Deluxe Class eligibility page is where those classes are defined. This page will not invent extra age tests Help does not print on the booking table.

An 18-year-old can book a Standard car. They cannot book a car with total market value more than $20k. They also cannot list a car in the US — that is host age 21, on How old to rent out my car on Turo.

Young driver fee

US guests under 25 pay Turo’s fee. Help does not print a dollar. You do not add one.

Turo’s booking Help: if you are a driver between the ages of 18 and 24, you must pay a young driver fee.

  • Calculated on age at the time of booking, not the trip start date.
  • Varies depending on trip length and other factors.
  • Cannot be excused or refunded once the trip is completed.

Turo’s trip-costs page: a young driver fee is a charge Turo applies to guests under 25 in the US, Australia, and the UK, and guests under 26 in France. Turo does not charge a young driver fee in Canada. That page also says the fee cannot be removed or refunded at the end of a trip.

Those two articles agree. “18–24” and “under 25” are the same US gate. This site is written for US hosts. Canada and France are printed because trip-costs prints them — not because this page is a third-country planner.

Live Help as of August 21, 2026 does not print a young-driver dollar amount. Forum posts that print a dollar are not Help. Do not copy them into a listing, a checkout note, or this site’s calculator.

Additional drivers

Same age bar as the primary. Under 25 still pays. Pickup is still the primary.

Turo’s page about adding a driver to a trip: additional drivers must get approved, have their own Turo account, meet age and license requirements in the country where the trip takes place, and meet Turo’s age requirements for the vehicle class. More expensive cars have higher age requirements. If Turo denies an extra driver for age, Help’s example is that the booked car sits in a higher class because of market value.

Same article, FAQ: drivers under 25 must pay young driver fees. This fee cannot be removed or refunded at the end of a trip.

That extra driver can drive without the primary in the car. They cannot pick up or return. If someone else is at the car, you refuse and report a guest no-show — that walk is on Turo unauthorized driver, not here. How guests add an extra driver in the app, the eight-driver cap, and check-in: Turo additional driver.

Not a host extra

You cannot add an under-25 surcharge, listing fee, or host deposit.

Turo’s listing a vehicle | US page: don’t mention fees, deposits, or restrictions not supported by Turo and the Terms of service. An “under 25 tax” in the description, a cash deposit at the lockbox, or a homemade Extra named “young driver” is that line.

Turo’s trip-costs page: a security deposit is a refundable Turo guest charge for post-trip vehicle damage, unpaid eligible reimbursement invoices, or eligible roadside services. If unused, Turo refunds it 80 hours after the trip ends. Neither Turo nor hosts can remove those deposits. That is not a host-held cash hold, and it is not a place to park your own under-25 fee. US dollar amounts Turo prints, and the 80-hour refund clock, are on Turo security deposit.

How extras actually work — optional add-ons, you keep 90% — is on Turo extras. Age is not an Extra. Daily distance is a listing setting, not an Extra — Turo extra miles.

License at check-in

Physical license. Not a phone wallet. Confirm it before the code.

Turo’s US booking Help: the guest must have a physical copy (not a digital copy) of an accepted license at check-in. They may be prompted to verify a license with Apple Wallet or Google Wallet in the app. That prompt does not replace the plastic in their hand.

Confirm the primary guest’s license before every trip, or you risk Turo voiding the protection tied to your earnings plan. If guests pick up from a lockbox, license first, then the code — and bag the lockbox fob so a boxed key cannot wake the car. Pickup order is on Turo lockbox pickup. The first-trip walk is on First trip.

An additional driver at the car is still a no. Report it as a guest no-show. That page is Turo unauthorized driver.

Your cost, not a Turo rate

The calculator’s $25/trip is not Turo’s young driver fee.

The homepage calculator starts with example numbers so you can change them: $60/day, 50% occupancy, $500 fixed, $25/trip, a $60 maintenance reserve, 80% Balanced. That $25 is a per-trip cost example — cleaning, supplies, your time — not Turo’s young driver fee. Help does not print a young-driver dollar. Do not type this site’s $25/trip example into the listing as if it were Turo’s fee.

What this page will not do

No invented dollar. No host surcharge. No merge with host age or pickup.
