Turo host requirements

Turo’s listing-help page says it in the first sentence. The short page for that one number — host 21 vs guest 18 / 21 / 25 / 30, UK and France at 18 — is How old to rent out my car on Turo.

Who can book — 18 / 21 / 25 / 30 by class, plus Turo’s young driver fee — is on Turo guest age.

Being 21 does not list the car. Turo still wants orientation. Being a guest at 18 does not turn the same account into a live listing the morning you turn 21.

Turo’s Vehicle eligibility | US page is the car list:

• Age of the car. Can’t be more than 12 years old, with exceptions for classic or specialty vehicles. In August 2026 that generally means a 2014 or newer model year. Turo’s marketing page still saying “2010 or newer” does not match this eligibility page. Believe the eligibility page.
• Miles. Under 130,000 at listing. Once listed, the car may stay after 130,000 if it is in excellent condition and still meets legal, safety, and mechanical standards.
• Title. Clean — not branded, not salvage. Never declared a total loss. Working odometer. You are responsible for title history.
• Registration. Located in the US, registered to you or to an owner who authorized you. Permanent, temporary, or similar plates. Dealer and trader plates are out.
• Value. Fair market value no greater than $200,000. Turo says contact them if you think you are over that.

New York. Turo’s eligibility page still says: if the vehicle is registered in New York, it must have an inspection sticker valid through at least the following month. New York also has a peer-to-peer law and a guest tax Turo collects. The longer NY note — plans liability, lease coverage — is on Start and Plans.

Maryland. Turo’s car-sharing regulations page still says: if the vehicle is registered in Maryland you are prohibited from sharing a vehicle more than 10 years old, unless you obtained a valid state inspection certificate within 90 days before listing — then a new certificate at least once every 10,000 miles. Tighter than Turo’s national 12-year line.

Turo’s listing-help page also says to complete required inspections, and Turo publishes a separate annual safety-inspection process for listed cars. That is not the same as the NY sticker or the MD certificate. Confirm Turo’s inspection tab for your listing.

Lease or loan. Turo tells you to read the contract and confirm the lessor or lienholder allows sharing. Permission is not automatic. The dedicated page is Can I rent out a leased or financed car?.

Insurance. Valid car insurance is on Turo’s listing checklist. Many personal policies exclude peer-to-peer sharing. Call the insurer before you list. The split — personal auto vs Turo earnings-plan protection — is on Does my insurance cover renting out my car.

What you keep vs what you risk. Host share and damage responsibility live on Plans. Host share is not profit.

Taxes. A 1099-K when Turo is required to send one is not the same as “untaxed.” That page is Do I pay taxes renting out my car?. Not tax advice.
