How to list without looking like a first-timer

Turo’s page about listing photos and Turo’s page about listing a vehicle say successful listings have at least 10 clear, well-lit, high-resolution photos — exterior from all sides plus unique interior features. Turo also says it crops about 20% on upload, so take five steps back every time or the bumper disappears.

Walk the car: front, both front quarters, both sides, rear, both rear quarters, driver’s-door view, dash close-up, front seats, dash from the back, back seats, trunk. Morning or evening light. Wash it first. You may cover the plate. Photograph any Extra you actually offer.

Turo prohibits stock photos, AI-generated or AI-altered images, text overlays, ads for other platforms, towing shots, and lewd or hateful content. Stock is against the Terms. One hero shot from the dealer site is how a first-timer gets restricted.

Turo auto-fills some features. Still write the human part: what the car is for (airport week, weekend mountains), what is in it (mount, charger, charger cable type), where pickup actually happens (garage vs street vs lot), and what you expect on fuel or charge. Do not put your phone number, home address, social links, or off-platform fees in the listing. Turo forbids personal contact details and homemade deposits.

Disclose trackers and road cameras in the listing. “Hidden” is for thieves, not for guests. Full policy on Trackers.

Turo’s page about pricing your vehicle says dynamic pricing is on for every listing. It balances daily rate against booking probability using make/model/value, live searches, past booked prices, local supply and demand, and other factors Turo does not publish. New listings are opted into a 5% last-minute boost when advance notice is under 24 hours. You can change or remove that in Trip preferences.

You may set your own calendar prices. Turo says the app will make you finish a short dynamic-pricing lesson first. If you price 20% or more above the recommendation, those days shade yellow — Turo’s warning that you may rank lower and book less. Use the Future prices chart (next 90 days) before you “know better” than the market on a car with zero reviews.

Home pickup is the default: guest comes to the car. You control the block, the lighting, and the walkaround. It is slower to book than “meet me at arrivals,” and it is kinder to your first month.

Delivery (airports, hotels, a guest-chosen pin) books more and costs time, parking, and airport rules. Turo: you keep 90% of the delivery fee you set, regardless of earnings plan. You can offer up to 10 point-of-interest locations plus a custom radius. Airport delivery has its own parking-fee guidelines and permitted lots — read Turo’s airport page, not a Facebook comment. In-person handoff is right for trip one. You confirm the physical license, walk the car, and teach the lockbox for next time. You also eat early flights.

Lockbox is how most people listing one car stay sane. Share the code in Turo messages, not in the public listing. Change it every trip. Turo: customer support cannot give guests lockbox instructions — that is on you. Do not hand access to someone whose license you have not confirmed. Turo’s page about trip preferences: set advance notice (minimum lead time), trip buffer (hours between trips), and min/max trip length. The system will not offer bookings that violate those settings. Turo’s current trip-bookings Help page says those settings matter because the system automatically accepts trips that match them — Instant Book is not a pile of requests you sit on. A two-hour buffer looks efficient until the first guest is 40 minutes late and you have a 4 p.m. start behind them. First month, give yourself a half day if you can stand the empty calendar. Turo’s page about offering extras: conveniences (prepaid refuel or EV charge, unlimited mileage, pet fee) and gear (child seats, coolers, and the rest of Turo’s list). You keep 90% of an Extra. New listings are auto-opted into prepaid refuel — change the price or turn it off. Guests can add or drop an Extra before trip start without asking you. You may not require an Extra to book, and you may not use Extras as a deposit. If a guest bought prepaid fuel or unlimited miles, you may not also invoice those after the trip. Young driver. In the US, Turo itself charges guests under 25 a young driver fee. That is Turo’s fee, not something you invent. Turo screens who can book; Instant Book does not let you add a private under-25 gate. Who can rent the car, and what Instant Book actually does, is on Turo Instant Book. Do not add a second off-platform “under 25 tax.”

Child seats. If you offer one, Turo says the guest installs it, and you replace it if it is damaged, recalled, or expired. Lost extras are generally outside Turo — set expectations in the listing.
